The epicenter of VG10 must be Echizen, which is very famous for its traditions among blade smiths. For 6-800 years, smiths from the surrounding Prefecture of Fukui, has been crafting superior tools, swords and knives.

Blades forged in Echizen are renowned for their military history. sometimes in the 14th century however, it's said that the master smith, Kuniyasu Chiyozuru, decided to create blades for something more than killing.

As high as 60-70% of knife producers in Japan, uses the VG10 steel. Due to it's ability to withstand rust, to hold a sharp edge and it's ease of sharpening, VG10 is the most coveted steel for professional chefs and amateurs alike.

The name stands for V Gold 10 ("gold" meaning quality).  It is a stainless steel with a high carbon content, also containing, Chromium, Vanadium, Coblat, Molybdenum and Manganese. Utiliizing the different metals abilities results in the highest of qualities.

It's much due to VG10s abilities to hold a very sharp edge and resist corrosion better than other steels carrying a similar sharpness. These abilities are a big reason why knife experts consider VG10 the best steel for kitchen knives.
